Today we’d like to introduce you to Maghan Morin and Jeanine Suah.
Maghan and Jeanine, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Our story starts about three years ago when we realized we were stronger together than apart. Jeanine and I both had our own separate companies and were working together to help eachother where one lacked in their business. It didnt take us long to realize that we would be a force to reckon with if we started something together. Shortly was the birth of The Doyenne Company. Our goal was to open up a women’s co-working space, so we started by doing what we called “pop-up co-working days”, traction picked up quickly, we went from 12 women to 150-200 women in a matter of two months attending our “Pop-Ups.” Unfortunately, the Bay area wasn’t exactly ready for a physical space but the community we built was AMAZING and has produced a lot of “badass women”, influencing the culture of collaboration. Fast-forward to where we are today, we realized that our power lies in building communities, and uplifting those who oftentimes feel alone.
After taking a few months off from the Doyenne Company, we traveled to many cities throughout the country and researched where we could make the most impact. North Miami happened to be the place we fell in love with from the very moment we drove down 125th street and saw the potential. After visiting Miami for a full year coming down every other week to build our network, we officially moved in Jan. of 2019. We are now set to open up the 1st ever Income-Based Community Co-work space right here in Downtown, North Miami coming in 2020. We have a deep passion for small business owners, and entrepreneurs and the struggle that they face day to day. We have worked tirelessly to come up with a solution to help those who have a dream but lack money or resources to always have a place to become who they are destined to be.
Has it been a smooth road?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I will start with that old cliche term… “nothing worth having, comes easy.” We’ve had many road bumps along the way. Especially coming into a community in which you were not born in, have no family in, and is known for lots of local corruption can be very difficult. We’ve had to work 10x as hard as the next person to prove we mean what we say and we have good intentions for the people within the community. It didn’t matter what our accomplishments were elsewhere and that we literally built a large community in the Bay area, that caught the attention of Tampa Bay Times, many local magazines, and local news. Coming into Miami, we felt like we are starting from the bottom all over again here, but I must say it has made us much smarter as women in business, much tougher, and much more sure of who we are and what we stand for.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Thynk Global – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Thynk Global invests in low-income areas and Opportunity Zones with the intention of providing affordable resources for the people.
We aim to help neighborhoods on the brink of gentrification by creating a high-quality hub that promotes socio-economic inclusion.
We create income-based coworking spaces that provide affordable options for young entrepreneurs and low-income professionals.
We are known for our energy and ability to build communities. We like to call ourselves the connectors. 🙂
I think what sets us apart is that we have found a way to combat gentrification that has never been done before. We are actually giving people within these communities a TRUE chance to build their own paths and create something beautiful for their lives.
We as an organization are most proud of the individuals we have inspired and helped along the way. It’s always nice when we get an email from someone stating “because of you, I decided to start my own company’. Being an entrepreneur takes some serious guts and if we can inspire millions to do it, that’s the greatest accomplishment we could ever have!
Is there a quality or characteristic that has played an outsized role in your success?
NEVER EVER EVER EVER stop. NO MATTER WHAT. Keep going, keep pushing.
